Hi, my name is Linda. This is my personal home and hearth journal.

I am a self-trained herbalist. I became a vegetarian when I was a teenager in the 1960s. I was a San Francisco Bay Area hippie in the 60s and early 70s. Then I became a mom - the most important job I've ever had.

Now I live in a very small mountain community. The nearest fast food restaurant is more than forty miles during summer, and more than seventy miles in winter when the pass is snowed under. I've never owned a cell phone, but I talked on one once.

A Sweet Treat

I was in the mood for a sweet treat tonight. Now first I must explain, I’ve recently gone on a vegan diet, with lots of raw food. So I wanted something healthy, sweet, and preferably not cooked.

I used a blender, but this is probably better for a food processor, using the s-blade.

Peanut Butter Granola Rounds

1 + 1/2 cups granola
1/4 cup peanut butter
4 tablespoons real maple syrup

Blend, process, whatever, until this is the consistency of cookie dough.

Roll into balls and dredge in a mixture of rice flour and cinnamon.

I could only eat two. This definitely took away my craving for sweets, and I’ll have something in the freezer for ‘next time’.

  1. Linda, this sounds delicious! What kind of granola did you use? Can I steal this recipe (with proper attribution) for my clients (and myself!)?

    Thanks!

    Warmly,
    Jody

  2. Go right ahead, Jody. I used store-bought granola… it contained almonds and cranberries, and oats of course. I’m not sure what else. I think any granola would do.

  6. Is granola good for you? Does it have lots of fibre in it? I need to eat more fibre according to my doctor and I’m looking at different sources of it. Thanks

  7. Lesley, yes, granola is a perfect source of unprocessed natural fiber.

  8. Mmmm… Thanks for sharing this Linda. So simple, yet so tasty and, as you say, they certainly take away the hunger pangs.
