Cinnamon and Honey Weight Loss Tea
I don’t know if it works, yet… but I found this cinnamon and honey idea on a news site from India along with a list of other healthy cinnamon and honey ideas. It is from Ayurvedic and Yunani medicine.
The article says that to lose weight, we should make a tea of honey and cinnamon. The author suggested that we boil honey and cinnamon in the water, but I am more inclined to add them to boiled water rather than boil them. Then drink one cup in the morning, about half an hour before breakfast on an empty stomach… and drink one more cup of this tea at night. I’ve tried it a few times and the tea tastes great. I would drink it more often!
Anyhow, the article goes on to claim that if consumed regularly this honey and cinnamon tea will reduce weight by not allowing fat to accumulate in the body even if a person eats a high calorie diet. I hope this is true, and will try it for the next month. I’ll let you know if I lose any weight this way.
I’ll be posting more about honey and cinnamon cures in the future. I like easy and quick home remedies that can be found in my country kitchen pantry.

I just want to add that the article I found has also been reprinted on other websites around the internet but I chose to refer to the site in India because it is the only one that gives the author’s name!

I was wondering if you have lost any weight & how much since you started the “tea”? I have been drinking it for about a week now, but I don’t have a scale at home so I’m not sure if I have lost weight. I didn’t have any measurements for the honey & cinnamon so I’ve been using approx. 1 tsp of cinnamon & about 1-1 1/2 tbsp of honey.
Thanks for any information.

I lost about five pounds, but then quit drinking the tea. I probably should start again. The tea was easy to make and tastes great.

I am just starting now on this tea drink. Does anyone have a ratio of honey to cinnamon. I used 2 honey to 1 cinnamon but if anyone has a tried ratio that works I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Hi. I read all the wonderful comments and decided to try it. I love it!! I have one problem though. After the first few days of everything going really well, I made up a batch and it went all goopy in the bottom. the honey and cinnamon went like slime. it really put me off and since then even with different cinnamon and a new jar of honey I still had the same response. Can any one help me? thanks
Comment by Dianne Bowley — Monday, March 3, 2008 @ 8:51 pm
Dianne, I think that’s how it is supposed to be. Probably the bulk it creates by mixing honey and cinnamon together is part of the reason it is effective for weight loss. Cinnamon and honey help remove appetite because the stomach feels full.

Would like to try this but would prefer to know the correct portions of honey to cinnamon and water. Did read comments so far and like others have almost same questions. What do you use to strain and can you make large batches to save doing it daily.
Thank you and will reply with news on weight loss. I have a wedding to attend in one month so this may just do the trick.

Well.
I tried it and it works great.
The theory behind drinking it warm is its effectiveness. The warm water aids in proper digestion.. clearing/ melting the fact and effective absorption of the nutrients in to the blood. Its similar to flushing a drain with hotwater.
Moroever preparing it fresh is recommended. I tend to boil the water now along with Honey and Cinnamon.. Earlier, I used to microwave a glass of water. Again microwave is a bad choice to heat/ or cook something.
Cold water or ice ain’t good for the stomach to start with and is not recomended especially after or during food. I quit on Ice water completely about 8 months now and it makes a difference.

Thanks Merry… I would like to find that original recipe. Do you know where it is?
Comment by Linda — Monday, March 31, 2008 @ 7:06 am
RAW, UNCOOKED honey must be used for the best results. Also, don’t add the honey until the tea mixture (hot water and cinnamon) have had 30 minutes to sit (covered). I don’t strain it - but if you prefer, you can. Add the RAW honey only after the water had cooled for 30 minutes. Don’t reheat the refrigerated mixuture (the other half) the next morning b/c the hot water kills the enzymes in the honey, making it ineffective.
If this isn’t working for you, you probably aren’t using RAW honey, are adding while the water’s too hot or not making the mixture each evening. It doesn’t take that long, and it works! Keep in mind that once your system is flushed out (clean colon), you will stop losing weight. Then it’s up to you to keep the weight off - proper diet, exercise, etc.
I stared at 140 lbs. and have lost 6 lbs. in just 2 weeks! I’m thrilled.

I read about the cinnamon for high blood sugar (mine was to high) and decided to try it, along with more whole grain items in my diet. I went to the dr. last week for more blood work, and my sugar levels have dropped by seven points. I have been doing this for a few months. I can’t guarantee it was the cinnamon, but I am going to continue until my next visit in July to see what happens. I also plan on trying it with the honey. Thanks for the information.

Couldn’t you also use green tea as a substitute to water, to increase the weight loss factor. I was drinking green tea everyday and was losing weight before I had my first child. I now use it in thier kool-aid and in everything I make that requires water. It just adds the extra benefits to it.
Just a thought.

Was wondering if anyone experienced symptoms of nausea? I tried the tea for the first time this morning and felt quite ill after drinking a full cup. I’m not sure if this is normal or if I’m releasing toxins????? Has anyone had a similar experience?
Comment by Jac — Wednesday, April 30, 2008 @ 3:40 pm
Jac, I’ve never had that reaction to cinnamon and honey. I wonder if it was because of the type of honey you used.
Comment by Linda — Wednesday, April 30, 2008 @ 9:52 pm
I used regular store bought honey. I have purchased some Manuka honey today and it is supposed to have advanced therapeutic qualities. Maybe I felt so ill as i had an empty stomach and had felt hungry for quite a while prior to drinking the tea???

I hope the sick feeling doesn’t continue, Jac. If it does, I’d cut down the amount of cinnamon used.

Comment by JANE ZaM — Wednesday, May 7, 2008 @ 6:16 am
I have been taking this mixture for two days now and after reading your comments I have this to offer - strain the water and cinnamon mixture - don’t put that gob of gook in yr stomach - it will make u sick - I strain mine a couple of times thru the seive and lastly thru a coffee filter and it works really well then add the honey. I make a double batch and put mine in a large mason jar with a cover and keep it on the counter.
I am a huge sugar fan - I crave sugar!! This mixture has reduced my cravings for sugar immensely!! In the past two days I have not eaten anything sweet at all and have no desire to do so - perhaps this will help me to lose weight. I have seen nothing yet with regards to a colon cleanse but I have been told it will take a couple of days for “any movement” so to speak!! haha! Also there is no change in the scale with regards to weight loss BUT I am losing inches because my pants r loose so I am going to give this at least a week or two and will report back to you.
If nothing else it reduces the sugar cravings and tastes really great!!!
Good luck to all of u I know how hard it is to loose weight!!!

The “Honey and Cinnamon” tea is great. Lost six pounds in the first ten days.
I use “Watkins” cinnamon because it is naturally sweet. Better then the bitter stuff from the store. You won’t find it in stores; you need to find a dealer that sells it. Call 800 operator and ask for “Watkins Products” number.
Comment by Eloise — Wednesday, May 14, 2008 @ 4:50 pm
Hi Again,
I don’t strain the mixture. I keep a jar made up with half honey and half cinn. I put a heaping teaspoon of it in a cup of almost boiling water. I stir it several times, let it cool some, and drink it with a stir here and there. It tastes great with the sweet cinn.
Raw honey is best. Processing destroys the good parts of the honey (have forgotten what they are called).Cinnamon does help your blood surger. 1/4 t per day is all you need. Also helps lower cholesteral. I also add a spoon of the mixture to oatmeat or anything I want sweet. Even use it on toast without butter. I have heard too much will give the runs slightly but have not had that happen.

I was sent an email last week about the honey and cinnamon cures and I did some research on the web and some people were saying it was a myth because honey will store as fat when drinking it before bed? I have only tried it for a few days now and do not notice a difference as of yet but will keep drinking it. I am just a little concerned about the amount of comments that it could actually cause you to gain weight because the honey will store in your system and because you drink it before you go to bed that it will turn in to fat. Are there any websites I can go to that can explain way they may be incorrect.

I have been drinking this tea for almost a week now. I haven’t noticed any weight changes, but I don’t have a scale.
I use #33’s recipe, but might try #8’s, just cause I like the tea so much! I don’t filter it either. I did read on earthclinic.com that whatever recipe you use, you should keep it 1 part cinn to 2 parts honey. (so 1 tsp cin to 2 tsp honey, so on).
I ate fastfood the night I started this, and the next morning, I did get really sick and was in the bathroom all morning. But I have noticedif I eat healthy during the day it doens’t have this effect at all. So it certainly cleans everything out.
I also don’t have cravings for the sugar anymore, and I’m addicted to sugar, so that says alot!

I made the tea again, this time not adding so much cinnamon and with the water, cooled down a bit from the boil. Seems okay now,. IMPORTANT: I visited my Chinese Medicine doctor last night for another matter and when I told her about this, she let me know that if you put the honey in boiling water, you kill the natural and essential enzymes in it. As well, the honey needs to be unpasturized for that reason.
The proper way to make this tea is by steeping 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon for about 30 minutes in 1 cup of water first. Once the mixture becomes room temperature, add 1 full teaspoon of honey and then drink. You can put half in the fridge for the morning for the next day, but do not heat it up. I must say so far, in only 3 days, my abdomen is shrinking already with no major side effects. Hmmm. My thoughts: Maybe it works, maybe it doesn’t, but psychologically I choose to believe it does and it sure is curbing my sweet tooth! Good luck to y’all and I’ll keep you posted.

You can get Watkins cinnamon on ebay. I’ve been using another brand, but will try some Watkins.
I’ve been drinking the tea for a little over a week. Haven’t noticed any difference in weight, but will continue for a few weeks. The first several days I drank it, it didn’t turn to slime. Bought a new bottle of cinnamon and now dealing with slime every batch, and unsuccessful in straining it. I’ll try the suggestion above and strain it several times through a sieve, then a coffee filter.

Hi. I started drinking the cinnamon and honey tea last week and lost 4 kg in that time! Not sure if it is because I am also combining it with apple cider capsules before meals. I also drink about 2 l of water a day. The issue about the honey is to use raw honey, as it still has all the enzymes that work towards weight loss. Treated honey is basically useless due to the radiation process it goes through. The other thing is not to boil the honey - it also loses its good properties. So what I do is I put 1 tsp of cinnamon in boiling water, let is steep for about 5 mins and then add 1 tsp of honey to the water. That also addresses the issue of the slime situation. Hope it helps! I certainly am continuing with this!

Saksi, I too have PCOS. Just stop if you do get pregnant - honey is not good for pregnant women, esp. unpasterized which should be used in this recipe.
Just had a baby 3 months ago, so looking forward to trying this tea.
Anyone try it with green tea yet?

If I don’t filter the cinnamon tea, are the particles that don’t dissolve of any value to the body? Would that boost the weight loss effect? I have just tried for a couple of days and I do feel a difference (my imagination?). Lost 1 lb, but maybe that is fluid loss. Are either of the ingredients a diuretic?

*NOTE:The honey used needs to be REAL RAW UNPASTEURIZED HONEY. If it says PURE honey it is most likely pasteurized. It is best to only buy honey that says RAW or UNPASTEURIZED on the label. The difference is that the enzymes are all heated out of the pasteurized honey.
Cinnamon and Honey formula for weight loss:
This should be prepared at night before going to bed.
1. Use 1 part cinnamon to 2 parts raw honey. 1/2 tsp cinnamon to 1 tsp honey is recommended but can use more or less as long as in the ratio of 1 to 2. — so 1 tsp cinnamon to 2 tsp raw honey is ok too as an example.
2. Boil 1 cup…that is 8 oz of water.
3. Pour water over cinnamon and cover and let it steep for 1/2 hour..(30 minutes)
4. Add honey now that it has cooled. Never add honey when it is hot as the heat will destroy the enzymes and other nutrients in the raw honey.
5. Drink 1/2 of this directly before going to bed. The other 1/2 should be covered and refrigerated.
6. In the morning drink the other half that you refirgerated…but do not re-heat it…drink it cold or at room temp only.
Do not add anything else to this recipe. No lemon, no lime, no vinegar. It is not necessary to drink it more time in a day…it is only effective on an empty stomach and primarily at night.
This works for most people. Inches are lost before any measurement on the scales. This program will cause significant inches lost…but you will reach a plateau and may not lose anymore. This is because the cinnamon and honey cause a cleansing effect in the digestive tract and cleans out parasites and other fungus and bacteria that slow down the digestion…causing a toxic build up. (Lowers pH) Once this is all cleaned out then you will most likely have the weight loss slow down.
Other side effects from a cleansing can occur because of toxins being released…if this occurs, cut back on how much you use or take a break.
Additionally people report increased energy, more sex drive, and feeling happier/mood enhancer.
I didn’t mind the taste.. and I didn’t strain it..Happy weight loss everyone:)

I have been drinking the tea mixture for weight loss for 3 1/2 weeks and I haven’t lost a pound! In fact I think I may have gained one or two lbs. and haven’t “shrunk” in inches at all. At first it seemed to really help my digestion but now I’m back to my same old sluggish digestion. Why isn’t it working?

My friend and I just started this yesterday in hopes this might actually work. Neither of us have a problem with the taste and we’re pretty much following what #86 said to do. We’re going to give it at least 2-3 weeks to see if there is anything noticable from it. My short term goal is to lose at least 10-15 lbs. by the holidays. If I can lose a little more than that, I’d be extremely happy. I do have a long term goal, but am trying to focus on short term goals and then at the end, I will hopefully have reached my ultimate long term goal. We shall see and I will post something after 2-3 weeks. Good luck to everyone else!

Hi, I was reading all these comments & request for recipes:
The original recipe is:
1 cup boiling water
1/2 tsp cinnomon-good quality
1 teaspoon raw honey
boil water - remove from heat steep cinnamon for about 15min
add honey and stir
I use a small fine mesh sieve to strain all particle out of tea
(found in any kitchen gadget dept-about the size of the mouth of a drinking glass)
the recipe can be doubled or tripled accordingly -
Sounds exciting! I hope it works…I just started yesterday and will report any favorable results, thanks

Thanks for the clarification, America. I think it is important to remember to use RAW honey (not store processed clear honey) and also REAL CINNAMON… not CASSIA which is sold and labeled as Cinnamon in the USA.

Is this honey and cinnamon tea safe during pregnancy and when breast feeding?
Comment by SB — Wednesday, October 29, 2008 @ 10:54 am
SB - I wrote this for you: Herbs and Pregnancy - what to use and what not to use. The rules for breastfeeding are the same as for pregnancy.

I make the tea before bed and really enjoy it warm. However the cold serving in the morning is very difficult for me to get down. Can we still get weight loss results by drinking the full cup each night? Or does it have to be twice a day?

Doesn’t the results of drinking this mixture depend on everyone’s diet? Some say it works others say it doesn’t. What are your diets consisting of besides the tea? I already have raw honey, but will need to find cinnamon that isn’t cassia? I will post again to advise when I start and update as needed! Thanks and good luck to all.

aisha - the cinnamon and honey combination is good for a host of other ailments… asthma could be one of them.
dAd - I don’t know of any hard fast scientific evidence for how this diet works. I don’t know why you would need to drink it cold in the morning. Why not warm?
selfesteemrox - cool screen name! I’ll bet you’re right that diet does affect this… I don’t think just cinnamon and honey tea will help if someone is eating donuts all day.

It is very good to see the results that so many people had with this remedy. Cinnamon is not good just for weight loss. It has so many other health benefits and you get all of them while loosing weight. Keep something in mind though. Cinnamon has something called cumarin. This is not water soluble. So if you are taking a lot of cinnamon don’t use the powder. Boil few sticks of cinnamon in water and drink the tea. But if you are pressed for time this is not a solution. Find the real cinnamon (ceylon cinnamon) powder. Ceylon cinnamon has only 0.004% cumarin compared to 0.5% in cassia (cinnamon sold in north america unless it is labelled ceylon cinnamon). Here is the link for health effects of cumarin:

I cannot hide anymore the reason I know so much about cinnamon. I grew up surrounded by ceylon cinnamon in Sri Lanka. If you check the internet and check where the best cinnaon in the world is; it is around my village I grew up. My father came to Canada to visit us in 2006 and saw what is sold in stores. he convinced me to import cinnamon from Sri Lanka and sell. Right now he is very dissapointed in me that I haven’t sold his cinnamon. If you send me an e-mail to true.cinnamon@rogers.com with your address I can see if I can deliveer you some.
